This presentation explores the use of Prolonged Grief Therapy (PGT) with a client whose older brother died from an opioid overdose. Participants will learn how the client met diagnostic criteria for prolonged grief disorder (PGD) based on her presenting concerns and symptoms, and will follow the course of treatment from assessment through resolution. The presentation will highlight key components of PGT, the therapeutic challenges encountered along the way, and the meaningful clinical gains achieved throughout the client's recovery.

1. Describe the core diagnostic features of prolonged grief disorder (PGD) and how they were identified in a client grieving the opioid-related death of her older brother.
2. Identify the primary components of Prolonged Grief Therapy (PGT) used throughout the course of treatment, including strategies for engaging the client in therapy.

About the Presenter
Christina Zampitella, Psy.D., FT is a licensed clinical psychologist, Fellow in Thanatology, and founder of the Center for Grief and Trauma Therapy. She serves as an adjunct professor and international professional speaker, with a particular passion for training and mentoring emerging mental health professionals. Dr. Zampitella is also the host of her podcast Phoenix Rising with Dr. Z. Her clinical practice, research, course development, and teaching focus on bereavement and trauma studies, meaning reconstruction, nature-based therapy, and integrative psychology.
