Training
What’s the difference between 1-day and 2-day workshops?
The 1-day The Big Picture workshop presents an overview of our framework for understanding grief and prolonged grief treatment. It also includes prolonged grief assessment and differential diagnosis and an illustration of initial treatment procedures like Grief Monitoring. This workshop is intended for an audience of professionals, graduate-level students, and those who work closely with bereaved people like hospice administrators, clergy, and support group facilitators.
The 2-day Practice-Focused Training workshop builds on the 1-day; it will review and illustrate specifically how to apply core procedures of the prolonged grief disorder treatment and troubleshoot common stuck points. It is a deeper dive that is intended for an audience of licensed clinicians or trainees actively working with bereaved clients. We recommend attending both workshops in sequence; however, it is not required so you can decide what best fits your needs.
Do you provide certification in Prolonged Grief Treatment?
At this time, our Center does not provide a certification in PGT. We provide a certificate of completion for our continuing education programming.
Who can receive continuing education credits?
Licensed in the state of New York psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors as the New York State Education Department recognizes the Center for Prolonged Grief as an approved provider of continuing education for these professions.
For psychologists, the Center for Prolonged Grief is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education. If you are licensed outside of New York, please check with your local or state licensing board if continuing education credits will be accepted. Many states recognize the APA approval or have recognized our continuing education programs as we are based at Columbia School of Social Work, a CSWE-accredited institution and part of Columbia University, a regionally accredited university.
