Overview

Evermore is a national nonprofit dedicated to making the world a more livable place for all bereaved people. We are changing policies and practices within our communities — and across America — so that all bereaved people can achieve a healthy, prosperous, and equitable future. In addition to the immense personal tragedy people experience, bereavement is a problem with vast health, economic, and social consequences. To address these consequences, Evermore is accelerating lasting societal change using data and science to drive policy and practice advancements that are grounded by the lived experiences of individuals and families.

Arguably, Evermore is the nation’s most trusted voice in bereavement policy and systems change, as it has led multiple federal endeavors, including securing three consecutive federal appropriations actions which facilitated the first federal report on grief and bereavement, the first federal experts’ panel, and other agency-level actions. We are non-partisan and work with all political parties. Known as a “field catalyst,” Evermore is shaping the bereavement ecosystem and facilitating lasting systems changes. Our work has been covered by many top-tier media outlets, and we were recently featured on PBS NewsHour’s Brief But Spectacular.

We believe we have the opportunity to transform America’s social norms toward a more compassionate nation, particularly when people are most vulnerable. To learn more about our work and successes, visit www.evermore.org or review our recent report, Our Impact: Transforming Bereavement Policies and Systems in America.

Learning Objectives

  1. The audience will be able to articulate bereavement as a health, social, and economic concern, contextualizing its impact on American society.
  2. The audience will be able to articulate how bereavement policy and systems can support functional coping and adaptive processing at the population level, not only the individual level.
  3. The audience will be able to articulate policy developments in the federal space and how those developments can shape a national response.
